Garage doors that have just one panel that doesn’t fold or roll as it opens and closes are called tilt doors. These type of garage doors are popular in basement carparks and properties with low headroom. If there is not enough space for a motor, tilt doors are generally used.
You don’t have to wait until your garage door becomes unusable to call us out. In fact, we recommend that you don’t! Like many mechanical applications, there are often tell-tale warning signs that happen before something major goes wrong. Look out for warning signs like garage tilt doors that are becoming heavy and difficult to lift. Another sign of potential problems down the track are squeaking and other friction related noises. Because a tilt door does not typically have a motor, the problems they usually suffer from are mechanical faults which are usually easy and relatively fast to repair.
There are 3 components that we find are the cause of most of our tilt door repairs.
Our tilt door repairs usually involve replacing a broken spring, there are 2 springs, one each side. We always recommend replacing both springs even if only one has a problem. That way they are both the same age and in the same condition so that the tension on both sides of your door are the same.
We can replace the arms that lift the door. These are called power arms.
We can also replace the wheels that run inside the tracks on each side of the door.
